I am convinced that most people have completely lost their ability to think critically. Looking around all I see are the walking dead who just do what they are told and don’t question why, even when given conflicting information and false data. They ask nothing, they think nothing, they accept everything. It scares me!
Their words are the hyperbole of those whom they have voted into office. They are mindless, empty, obliging, compliant. They are like sheep being led to slaughter merrily bleating all the way.
My mom taught me at a very young age the importance of asking, “Why?” There has to be a reason, a good reason, for every single thing you do, every choice you make. Mindless choices result in dangerous consequences.
In Scripture, we are instructed to “test everything” (I Thessalonians 5:21 English Standard Version). Yet so many believers test nothing. They do not ask why. They accept blindly, openly, compulsively anything anyone in “authority” over them says. This is so very dangerous. We are warned in Scripture about the constant spiritual battle we are in (cf. Ephesians 6). We are warned about the dangers of false teaching (cf. I John 4:1; 2 John 1:7-11; Matthew 7:21-23; 2 Peter 2:1, and the list could go on). We are warned throughout the entire book of Proverbs what will happen when we lack discernment and wisdom. We are warned about the prowling lion, our adversary the devil, who disguises himself as an angel of light, seeking whom he can devour (cf. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; 1 Peter 5:8).
We are warned, yet we forge ahead without thinking, without concern, without caution. We accept godless chatter and false knowledge as fact simply become someone says it is so. We lack the inquisitiveness of the Bereans (cf. Acts 17). Believers should be the most critical thinking people around!
Ephesians 5:6-16 (English Standard Version) says, “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’ Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Think people. Think…before it is too late!
