You are what you eat. I am sure you have heard this phrase before. However, have you ever thought about it in terms of what you put into your mind? If you consume a steady diet of bad news, angry stories, and violence, what do you think you will be come? If you constantly focus on the bad things going on this world, how do you think you will act?
Many of us spend hours each day consuming news, headlines, and television programming. Some of us, perhaps, spend time consuming God’s Word…hopefully. Does the time you spend consuming God’s Word even come close to equaling the time spent consuming the things of this world? You are what you eat.
What do you think would happen if you spent more time consuming the things of God? Philippians 4:8 (ESV) states, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” God’s Word is filled with all these things: truth, honor, justness, purity, loveliness, what is commendable, excellence, worthiness, praise…all these things!
Jeremiah 15:16 (NIV) states, “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” Are you struggling with anxiety about the world around you? Are you concerned for the future, worrying about the economy, the government, your health, the environment, or even society in general? Eat more of God’s Word.
