But a Mist

My oldest son turns 16 today.  How time has passed!  I can still picture him in his little blue sleeper when we brought him home.  We literally stayed up for 3 days in a row trying to figure out how to get him to sleep until my mom figured out that he really liked to feel secure.  Rather than sleeping in his nice new bassinet, he finally found rest in a baby stroller of all places.  The stroller lay back like a little bed, but was small and cozy.  There, he slept peacefully, and so did we—finally.

Now he’s 16.  I can remember when I was that age.  You truly think that nothing bad could ever happen to you.  You are prepared to take on the world!  How time flies!

Our time on this earth is so fleeting.   One day you are 16, and it seems the next your son is 16.  James 4:14 (ESV) says, “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”  What if you lived every day like you believed that? What if you lived every day as though it were your last?  What would you change?  Would anything stay the same?

We do not know when we will breathe our last breath.  We do not know when our time is up.  What is your life?  You don’t get a second chance.  What have you done with the time God has given you?
